PARIS, 2ND OLYMPIC GAMES, 1900

The 1900 Paris Olympic Games were held in conjunction with the World's Exposition. They played only a minor role. There were athletes who didn't know that the events they participated in were Olympic Games events. Few items relate directly to the Games. For this reason, we are also offering items commemorating the World's Exposition.

64. Shooting Winner's Plaque. Silvered AE, 42x59mm, by Vernon. Victorious athlete standing on podium inscribed "CONCOURS DE TIR/VII CONCOURS/NATIONAL". Rev. Winged goddess scattering laurel branches over Paris exposition grounds. EF. ($750)

65. Olympic Games Public Instruction Award Plaque. AE, 41x59mm, by Vernon. As preceding medal, but 5-line legend on reverse. EF. ($600)

69. Foldout Map of the 1900 Paris World's Fair. Multicolor, 57.9x46.2cm (22.8"x18.2"). Large map of the exposition site with insert of the Bois de Vincennes Annex to the Exposition where cycling, gymnastics, aviation events a.o. took place. Rev. Map of Paris incl. Bois de Vincennes with bus and tramway lines. VF. Scarce. ($225)

70. World's Fair 1900 20 Francs Bond. Green, 8pp., 10.2x15.2cm (4"x6"). Exchangeable for a reduced price entry ticket to the fair, which was held in conjunction with the Olympic Games, or reduced transportation to the fair. One coupon of two cut out on last page. VF. ($150)

71. (Book) Exposition Universelle de 1900. 24pp. with photogravures of the Exposition, 28x19.2cm (11"x7.6"), by Neurdein, Paris. Includes a photo of the Palais du Champ de Mars with the Festival Hall where the Olympic Fencing events took place. 20 Francs Exposition 1900 Bond and 2 blue Entry Tickets to the Fair pasted inside.
