78. Gold First Place Winner's Medal. Goldplated silver, 55mm, by J. Chaplain. Laureated head of Zeus facing holding winged Victory with laurel branches on globe. Rev. View of Acropolis and Parthenon between Olympic legend. VF, goldplating worn on high points. ($4,000)

79. Silver First Place Winner's Medal for Teams. Silver, 32mm. Seated Victory over panel inscribed "Olympia" in Greek, palm branch below. Rev. 6-line Greek legend. First place winning team members received this medal, a bronze medal was presented to second place winners. Toned EF, with loop and ring. ($1,800)

80. Silver Participation Medal. Silvered AE, 50mm, by N. Lytras. Seated Nike holding laurel wreath over phoenix emerging from flames, Acropolis in background. Rev. Greek legend in wreath. VF-EF, toning, numerous sm. rbs. ($700)

81. Participant's Badge. Silvered AE, 24x27mm. 4-line Greek legend. Rev. Ancient Greek coin of Cos. With loop and ribbon in Greek colors. EF, some toning. Rare. ($750)

82. Commemorative Winner's Plaque. Bronze, 49x70mm, by Vannier. Olympic winner over crowded Athens Olympic stadium, Acropolis at l. Rev. Fame flying over laurel tree, Greek temple at r. EF. ($350)

83. Official Commemorative Victory Medal. Silver, 24mm. Winged Victory. Rev. View of Athens Olympic stadium. Toned EF, struck on clipped planchet. ($200)

83a. Certificate of S.P. Lambros, Hon. General Secretary of the Committee of the Olympic Games certifying "that the only official commemorative medal of the Olympic games stamped by order of our Committee bears the design printed above… Gilt 3 drachmes a piece. Silvered 2 dr. a piece." Pink, 23x31.5cm (9.1"x12.4"), in Greek, French and English. So far it was believed that the gold- and silverplated medals were presented to dignitaries. It seems now that in 1906 the bronze medals were given to participants, and the gold- and silverplated medals were sold to the public. Creased, partially faded. Important document. ($300)
