PARIS, 2nd OLYMPIC GAMES, 1900
The 1900 Paris Olympic Games were held in conjunction with the
World's Exposition. They played only a minor role. There were
athletes who didn't know that the events they participated in
were Olympic Games events. Few items relate directly to the Games.
For this reason, we are also offering items commemorating the
World's Exposition.
c133. Gold First Place Winner's Plaque Awarded for Firemen and
Fire-Engine Competition. Goldplated silver, 41x59mm, by Vernon.
Winged goddess scattering laurel branches over Paris exposition
grounds. Rev. Victorious athlete on podium, Acropolis in background,
"CONCOURS DE SAPEURS-POMPIERS" on panel. 15 countries
competed incl. the United States which sent Kansas City's famous
hook and ladder Company Nr. 1. They received a Grand Prize for
their superior performance but were excluded from further competitions.
